Data Analysis and Visualisation with PowerBI
Power BI is one of the most used software for data-driven decision making in industry. Power BI allows to easily integrate different data sources, to create data models and to realize effective data representations that facilitate the data analysis and the information sharing within an organization. This course targets participants with little to no experience in Power BI and data analysis and illustrates the basic software functionalities and capabilities. The course content is disseminated through slides, Power BI guide-trough with the instructor and in-class exercises.

- Introduction to Power Bi desktop and software layout
- Data gathering and transformations via Power Query
- DAX: measures, calculated columns and tables
- Visuals, filters and slicers
- Data relationships and hierarchy
- Time analytics: date tables, calendar and time-intelligent functions
Power BI desktop (free) must be installed on the participant’s computer. Power BI Desktop runs only on a Windows computer.
Students and employees of the University of Zurich.
By taking this course, participants will be able to clean and integrate several different data sources in Power BI. Participants will be able to create simple data models, composed by multiple relationships across different data sources. Furthermore, participants will gain experience in creating reports and employing analytics with several data types. Participants will acquire some best practices for data analysis in Power BI and will learn how to deliver visually effective data representations via Power BI reports.
The course material comprises slides as well as exercise data files and will be provided in class.
